[EAT] MEAT CHEESE BREAD

{Photographs by Sally J Shim}

Meat Cheese Bread. Need I say more? When Appah and I have a craving for a good sandwich we go to Meat Cheese Bread. I always order the Park Kitchen [flank steak, pickled onions, blue cheese mayo, lettuce and vinaigrette] and Appah gets the warm Roasted Mushroom sandwich [roasted mushrooms, goat cheese, sherry onions and frisee on a roll WITH steak AND bacon]. I love how the chef does a double take when he reads Appah's order. What can I say, my husband was raised in Chicago and he loves his meat! Meat Cheese Bread also has delicious baked goods, one of my favorites is the Magic Bar [photographed above] which has a little bit of everything inside and is delicious! And you have to love their simple + cute logo. The owner told me that if you get their logo tattooed on your body you get a free sandwich every Tuesday. Guess what? Someone actually did it! You gotta love Portland!

Hi There,

Enjoy your blog! However, you always post about meat and we are vegan. So, your food posts do us no good. I am hoping that you can incorporate some great veggie/non-meat suggestions to the blog?

Also, it seems that you do a lot of shopping? Do you think you're incorporating a value system of spending/shopping as a way to pass time to your children? Are you guys involved in any "natural" activities? Sorry, I dont mean to sound critical, just wondering.... I always find it harder to find activities that dont revolve around food and shopping!

NASOULA // Thank you for the comment. Hopefully you can take what you like from this blog but I don't have intentions of catering the content to others interests. You might not be familiar with my other blog, SHIM + SONS [www.shimandsons.typepad.com], but you will see that my family and I spend a lot of time crafting, cooking, traveling and enjoying the great outdoors. I actually spend very little time shopping with my children. I post about design + fashion on this blog because as a mother + designer I find the items themselves inspiring.

Sally,

We got sandwiches from there twice last month (while Liam was in the hospital), but I never thought to add bacon and steak to the mushrooms. I think both would do me in, but bacon would sure make it even better. Genius! I love the wedge salad with blue cheese, bacon, croutons and egg – so, so good.

xoxo

I don't get why readers need to post comments like Nasoula's. The vegan comment is one thing (You are vegan, Sally is not, so she is posting about places that she likes to go, which happen to serve meat), however, when users start judging the parenting values of others based on a few blog posts, this crosses a line. I don't understand why readers can't get that someone's blog is only a sliver of what someone chooses to share online. It's not representative of how she lives her life. I don't think people realize how hurtful these comments can be. Maybe you didn't mean to sound critical, but you were being critical.

Hi sally,
I love the new blog!
However I'm really into extreme horseshoe throwing and I'm wondering why you don't post about that?

LYNN // I think the mushroom is good on its own, but leave it my husband to take it to another level. And by the look on the chef's face I think he is the first person to order that combo! ;) Can't wait to have an eating date soon!
