I mentioned before how much I've been enjoying my new iPad. We've had the iPad for over a month now and I have to say it is so convenient. I'm on my third ebook and I love the instant gratification of downloading a book and being able to read it within minutes. It also definitely comes in handy when traveling since it is so compact and lightweight. I'm still discovering the wonderful world of iPad apps but I thought I would share a few of the boys' current favorites. Thanks to all my friends who made so many good recommendations.

1. Math Board  //  The boys love the chalkboard element.

2. Make Change  //  Fun app to learn how to, well, make change!

3. Cool Mad Libs  //  There are some serious giggle fests here at Casa Shim thanks to this app!

4. My Spell Test  //  I love how you can customize the spelling lists and even record yourself saying the words.

5. Sushi Cat  //  Warning: This app might make you suddenly crave sushi.

6. Drawing Pad  //  Many different drawing mediums and color options.

7. Lil' Pirates  //  I admit I have no idea how to play this game but the boys love it.

8. Angry Birds  //  Just keeping it real. Before the iPad I didn't even know Angry Birds existed.

{Ink Robin}

On a side note the lovely folks at Ink Robin let us test out their Will & Kate: A Love Story iPad app*. I wasn't sure if the boys would enjoy it since they have no idea who the royal couple is but I let them read the story and fiddle around with the features. To my surprise the boys thought it was a funny story and I think that has a lot to do with the clever interactive features.

So what are your favorite iPad apps for kids? Or adults? Please share!

* Disclosure: Please note that although the app was given to me for free I informed the company that I would not write a review unless we liked the app. So all thoughts on the app are my honest opinions.

I am really addicted to Whirly word, it really challenges your mind if you like games like scrabble.

OOh, can't wait to check out those Math apps! My 9 year old Logan loves "math bingo" - and I do too, it sneaks a lot of math facts drill into a fun game. Drop the chicken is another fun game that makes them think spatially. My 13 year old loves garage band!

we like 'thought bubble' for sending silly messages when we don't want to speak or we need to try and get someones attention in a different way.

"pacman" for old time arcade fun.

and "cut the rope" there are some thinkfun games like "rush hour" as an app too that we enjoy.

and i'd almost feel like a liar if i didn't mention one of the most played games on our ipad: "ninjump hd" for some reason, my girls love playing this ninja jump game!

@sarah ooh yeah, i love playing rush hour and cut the rope too! other games i'm pretty bad at, like all the jumping games where you gotta fly/jump higher and higher in the sky...you know what i'm talking about?

Great info! Don't have an ipad yet but want one. Actually I want the ASUS Eee Pad Transformer since it has a few more options I like, like the usb port, mini HDMI port, and expandable memory with a SD memory card. SO I have been checking out what is out there for apps. Ipad sure has the market on the apps though. I am looking forward to fun things like the ones you mentioned with my 4 kiddos! Thanks for sharing! Kristy from www.apronsandapples.blogspot.com

My kids love the Stack the States and Stack the Countries. My 9 yr old is a geography geek and has only played stack the countries for maybe 1 -2 hrs and already has half the countries! As the kids start to learn more about the states and capitals etc, it'll be a great tool. My 7 yr old still likes to play the states game but isn't nearly as proficient as her older bro. I do wish it had included Canada provinces in that version.

Another game they like to play is where is my water? Lots of cause and effect in that one!
