Time for a new "my skincare routine" post since it has been 1.5 years since my last one. After using the same products for many years, I am finally using all new products. I think the new changes in my skincare routine has been a result of the fact that Korea has amazing beauty drugstores that sell a wide range of beauty products from all over the world and Korean women are serious about taking good care of their skin. Some of my favorite shops in Busan are the beauty pharmacies that sell Korean and imported skincare and makeup products. Most of the Korean women I know have good skin and although I think genes plays a big role, they also are quite diligent about taking care of their skin. I think in the U.S. we are a bit more focused on makeup and covering up our blemishes, but in Korea they are focused on taking care of their skin, so not a lot of makeup is needed. Most of my Korean friends (many of them mothers in their 30s and 40s) wear very little makeup. I also started going to a skincare clinic every week for facials (which I love). It is part of a dermatologist's office so the doctor checks out my skin every week and points out my problem areas or areas that have improved. As I have mentioned before I have dry/normal/sensitive skin, so although my skin needs to be moisturized, my skin does not respond well to rich cremes. I've learned from my dermatologist that I need to put on thin layers of creme and pat it into my skin instead of rubbing it in. Massaging your face every day is also another great way to increase the circulation and remove the toxins from your skin.

On to my skincare routine.

1. Gingko Natural Cleansing Tissue / I started using these cleansing tissues at the skincare clinic and I think they do a good job removing makeup from my skin.

2. Neutrogena Deep Clean Revitalizing Pink Grapefruit Ultra Foam Cleanser / I think this specific formula might only be available in Asia right now. I have been using Cetaphil cleanser for years and although I love that it is a gentle cleanser, I wanted to try something new. I love the grapefruit smell of this and I think it does a great job of cleansing my skin (and not drying it out).

3. Olive Young Face Scrubber / This is a soft plastic face scrubber that I use with the foam cleanser. I gentle make small circles around my face and focus on my nose and chin areas where I need a little more exfoliation.

4. La Roche-Posay Thermal Spring Water / My dermatologist told me that after washing my face I should leave a little bit of water on my face before I moisturizing, to seal in the moisture. I almost always forget to do this, so instead I spritz a bit of this spring water on my face before moisturizing. This is also great to spritz on your face throughout the day to freshen up your makeup and add a bit of moisture.

5. Nuxe Huile Prodigieuse Multi Usage Dry Oil / The local beauty drugstore has a large selection of dry oils and I've been passing by them for months. I was curious, but not sure what to expect. After reading Anna's rave review of Nuxe Huile Prodigieuse Multi Usage Dry Oil, I decided to try it out. I was skeptical that I would be able to forego wearing a daytime moisturizer, but I the dry oil is doing a nice job of keeping my skin moisturized.

6. Kiehl's Creme D'Elegance Repairateur / I actually picked this up for my mother on our trip to Portland. She gave me a sample of it which I have been using the past month. I use it at night instead of the dry oil and it gives my skin a lot of moisture.

7. Murad Essential-C Eye Cream SPF 15 / I've been using this eye cream for the past two months and although I cannot tell if it is lightening up the dark circles under my eyes, it is doing a good job of keeping the eye area moisturized without feeling greasy. I like that it is lightweight and absorbs quickly.

8. La Roche-Posay Anthelios XL SPF 50+ / I've been wearing moisturizer with SPF for ages, but my skin is still prone to little sun spots. This sunblock was recommended by my dermatologist and I love it. I pat it on and it melts in to my skin after a few minutes.

P.S. I have fallen in love with sheet masks and will write another post on my favorites.

P.P.S. If you enjoyed reading this post you will love Anna's skincare post (she writes my favorite beauty posts)!

I am a huge fan of Nuxe Huile Prodigieuse. Melissa Morris and Gwyneyth Paltrow reviewed them a few years ago as being top picks from a French pharmacy. You are lucky to be able to purchase in-store! I love the smell and would love to try the glitter version.

I would love to hear more of your review and recommendations for sheet masks!

I am always curious what kind of skin care routine women have. I love that the sunblock melts into the skin rather than sitting on top. Must try that one.

Hi - My girlfriends and I are traveling to Korea in May and very interested in getting some skin care products from there. Any recommendations on skincare or makeup brands, products or stores would be very helpful! :) Thanks so much!

ZELDA // I love the smell, too! :) The glitter version is pretty.

ANGELA // I'll be sharing about sheet masks soon! :)

LYANN // It is by far my favorite sunblock that I've ever used (and I've used many). It protects from UVA and UVB rays which is another plus! :)

SUE // I recommend hitting Olive Young & Boons beauty pharmacies. They are all over so you shouldn't have a difficult time finding one. As for products, there isn't one line that I recommend, but younger folks love Etude House, Tony Moly, Missha, etc. Have fun!

By the way, what is you make-up routine? Which products can you recommend? I've traveled extensively and I must say that the women in Latin America who wear very little make-up are amazingly beautiful. Is Korea heavy make-up country or natural?

NANCY // I need to stock up some more La Roche Posay sunblock! Love it! I'm going to do a make-up post next week so I'll share what I'm using now. Koreans love make-up, but applying it so it looks natural. They really focus on skincare though so that you don't need a lot of makeup.

Thank you! I will look forward to your post. I sometimes experiment with single sheet masks that I buy in the U.S. at Korean markets or skin care stores, but often I am unsure if I am buying a quality product. I have also purchased the plain sheet masks to apply my own product with, but I don't have any prior experience doing so. I am very interested in Korean skin care products and tools and appreciate so much your reviews for those of us that do not read in Korean. Thank you so much for your beautiful blog.

I finally bought that Clarisonic brush (Mia). I use it twice a week and I feel that it does a good job "taking stuff/cleaning" out of my skin... not sure it if it is a psychological thing or if it truly does. I am pleased with it. Not sure if it has made my skin better but my friend swears by it.

I had problem with my oily face before I tried to use a lot of face products but it has same result. When I found this cleanser I felt relief. I enjoyed touching my soft face skin after washing it.

Thanks you for the great post

Once you get in a routine with your skin care products and really stick to it, the improvements you will see are really worth the effort. I would suggest reducing make up use as it effects your skin negatively and using it daily can turn into a penalising habit.
