I remember when I was pregnant for the first time I really appreciated the advice given to me by other mothers. One of my favorite "words of wisdom" came from a fellow graduate student researcher who was the mother of two and grandmother of one. She told me that there are highs and lows as a parent, but to always remember that you will never have that moment back in time. So if it is something to be happy about, allow yourself to relish in the joy of the moment. And conversely, if it is a completely stressful situation, step back and remind yourself you will never have that moment again. I have to say that her words have stuck with me the past 11 years of motherhood (has it really been 11 years!!). So that one time when J was 4 years old and starting to gag while j (who had a strong gag reflex) proceeded to throw up because he saw his big brother almost throw up...well, let's just say, I ended up laughing at an otherwise not-so-pleasant situation.
My friends over at Clementine Daily (one of my favorite spots on the internet) asked me and fellow creative mamas to share some motherhood tips with their readers. I loved reading what other mamas had to share and I hope you do as well. You can read Clementine Daily's "More Of Our Favorite Motherhood Tips" here. And a big thanks to Shayla Lafreniere for the wonderful illustration of me and my boys.
