BACK TO SCHOOL 2014

It is hard to believe the summer has come to an end at Casa Shim. Although we had an amazing summer in the States, it is good to be home and back to a regular routine. Today the boys went back to school and they were happy to see all their friends and meet new teachers and classmates. One of the absolute best things about a new school year is school supply shopping. I have fond memories of school supply shopping when I was younger and am so happy to be able to relive the memories with my boys. We are lucky to live in Korea where it is easy to find cute and functional supplies for school. Here are some of the goodies we picked up for the boy's back to school supply kit. And even if you don't live in Korea many of them are available online (links below).

[I LOVE KOREA] CASA LIVING

Casa Living is one of my favorite Korean lifestyle magazines. It has a nice mix of home interior, food, beauty, and lifestyle features. Although I don't buy many magazines these days (going through two international moves and 3 domestic moves in a 3.5-year time frame will make you think twice about having extra "stuff" around the house), I always flip through the pages of Casa Living when I'm at the book store. I love the styling and photography in this magazine. Speaking of international magazines, I need to get my hands on the latest Milk Decoration. It looks amazing!

[BLOG] TWO YEAR ANNIVERSARY GIVEAWAY

I started blogging almost eight years ago as a mother of a two-year old and newborn. Blogging was my creative outlet and a wonderful way to document my life with my growing family. I first started off writing a private blog only accessible to family and close friends. Over time my blog became public and I gradually started making connections with other creative women around the country and world. I eventually moved over to my SHIM & SONS blog and after many wonderful years over there, I moved over here in to my current space, SALLYJSHIM. There are some folks who have followed me from blog to blog over the years and there are folks that only recently tuned in to my blog. Whoever you might be, I want to take this opportunity to say THANK YOU for visiting this space and for the encouragement and support.

NEW YEAR, NEW NOTEBOOKS

I don't know about you, but one of my favorite things about welcoming in a new year is all the possibilities it holds. Instead of thinking about what I haven't accomplished, it is time to focus and get motivated to make the new year a better one. Even though I love the conveniences of technology and all the helpful apps out there, I am still a firm believer in a good ol' trusty notebook and pencil/pen. And nothing beats picking out the perfect notebook to jot down my goals/ideas/ or sketch out designs/projects. I found the "Hmm" notebook (by Her bike, a Korean company) at a local stationery shop and love the silver foil on kraft cover.

I've had this O-Check Design Graphics sketchbook in my stash for a few years and I am happy to finally be putting it to good use to sketch out some designs for a new project. I love that the front cover functions as a folder to slip in random paper and the elastic band is handy for keeping the sketchbook closed. Hope this year involves new ideas and fun projects for you (or at least a few cute notebooks)!

[I LOVE KOREA] BARUNSON

PHOTOGRAPHS BY SALLY J SHIM

If you love cute paper goods and stationery then you would love Korea. Although I practice quite a bit of restraint when I peruse the aisles of my favorite paper shop it is always fun to shop for other people. I put together a little package of Korean goodies for a friend and her daughters (who live in the States) including these sweet Barunson notebooks. I love the peek-a-boo element and cute graphics.

[I LOVE KOREA] JSTORY

JSTORY

I love the fun and cute designs by JStory, a Korean stationery and office supply company. I first discovered their goods several years ago and have been a big fan ever since. I love their character Mask Bunny although for the longest time I thought it was a ninja. They have so many clever products like their Hello Post Its, Desk Note and Big Monthly Planner. You can find their goods here.
