{Little Red Stuga}

Little Red Stuga is a design studio based in Sweden which specializes in child centered products and environments. I fell in love with these amazing mountain poufs after reading a tweet from Tara of Ink + Wit. What child [or adult for that matter] wouldn't love a little Mount Everest, Kilimanjaro or Fuji in their home? I can picture the boys laying on one of the mountain poufs reading a book or pretending they are up on a real mountain.

You can find more of their amazing play products and environments here.

[WEAR] spring party

These images from the Crewcuts Spring 2011 collection make me want to throw a little "Hello, Spring!" party. Well, once spring actually arrives here in Portland. Crewcuts is one of my favorite U.S. children's clothing lines. I love their classic yet fun approach towards clothing for kids. If I don't get around to making bow ties for the boys soon I know where to buy some. And for the record, I really want to recreate the top right image with the boys.

I started blogging right after "j" was born, more than 5.5 years ago. I know we all say it but time really does fly by. "J" is now 7.5 years old and our "Baby J" [for those who have been reading my blog for years] or "j" is 5.5 years old. I started the SHIM + SONS blog back in 2005 as a means to keep in touch with family and friends. The first chapter of SHIM + SONS started over at Blogger and then a year later I moved to a new home over at Typepad. Back then there was a wonderful small community of creatives, many of us mothers. Over time the community grew and there was so many amazing and inspiring blogs out there. After returning from our time overseas in 2009 I was itching to have a new online space even though I still felt very connected to my SHIM + SONS blog. I spent a lot of time thinking about what my new space would look like, how it would be different from my S+S blog and how it would be defined [craft blog, design + lifesytyle blog, mommy blog]. I think the idea of having to define it paralyzed me. I wanted my new space to be a bit of everything. And towards the end of last year it finally dawned on me that I did not need to define what my new blog was nor did I need to exclude my personal life from my new space. Although I admire how some bloggers keep their personal lives separate from their blogs I realize I'm not one of them. Of course there is a lot that I don't share because as we all know life isn't always peachy keen but I like to focus on the good in my life and that is what I want to document here on this blog. I've started a personal journal [yes, one that I actually requires paper + pen] after having lost the habit many years ago and that is where I am able to record the good and the bad and the ugly. But this space is all about the things that inspire me to be a better wife, mother, friend and designer. And since so much of what drives me creatively is inspired by my family it would seem odd to exclude them from this space. So yes, you'll be seeing my boys and tidbits of my life as a wife + mother on this new blog.

Welcome to my new home! Or actually I should say "second" home since I will continue posting over at my SHIM + SONS blog on a weekly basis. After documenting my life as a wife, mother and designer at SHIM + SONS for nearly six years I felt it was time for a new little project. This new space is an extension of my SHIM + SONS blog and catalogs all the things that inspire me-- family, friends, good food, travel, design and creating. I'll be updating this blog Monday through Friday so stop by when you have time!

P.S. And as a way to express my appreciation for all of you who have been supportive of my work I am giving away one custom pin board [your choice of color + size]. Just leave your name in the comments section and I will select one name on the morning of Monday, March 7.

P.P.S. I want to extend a BIG THANK YOU to my dear friend Joke of Tokketok Design + Letterpress for designing my blog logo. I was turning into my own worst client when she came to my rescue!
